About the Club

The Rarotonga Golf Club, located in Nikao, Rarotonga, was established in the early 1970s as the Cook Islands’ first golf course. Situated near Black Rock and the Rarotonga International Airport, the 9-hole course, playable as 18 holes with two sets of tees, was designed to blend into the island’s tropical landscape, featuring swaying palms, ocean views, and a mountain backdrop. Unique hazards like radio masts and power lines were incorporated, reflecting the course’s quirky, island-style character.

Initially a modest facility, the club grew into a social hub for locals, expatriates, and visitors, fostering a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere. Over the years, it has hosted regular competitions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (members’ day), with the annual Rarotonga Amateur Golf Open, a World Amateur Golf Ranking Tournament, becoming a highlight. This event, complete with an opening BBQ night, draws golfers from various categories, showcasing the club’s welcoming spirit.

The Rarotonga Golf Club continues to embody the island’s laid-back charm while offering a unique golfing experience.
